While talking about good and evil, we began branching off into what makes a person or an action right or wrong.  This led into discussions of absolute standards for right and wrong and whether one exists.  We believe that the Bible is the absolute standard for right and wrong and that no other standard exists.

After discussing the Sandy Hook tragedy, we turned the discussion to another tragedy–abortion.  Abortion has made the mother’s womb the most dangerous place in the world for any child, killing 3,000 a day in the United States alone and over 50,000,000 (that’s million) in the last 40 years.  It is a bloody stain on our nation’s history that we must end.

The following audio clips are discussions of abortion and whether it is right or wrong.

Evil

While talking to people about the reasons behind the Sandy Hook shooting, we tried to dig down deep to find the root problem.  Many people said the main problem was mental illness or bullying, but the root problem of what makes people do bad things is their own evil nature.  Romans 5:12, which says “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—”, makes it clear that people are sinful and that is their main problem.  Mental illness, bullying, and everything else are just symptoms of that inner evil in mankind.  However, we are not without hope.  As Romans 5 continues, it talks about the free gift of righteousness leading to eternal life which can be found only by grace in Christ Jesus.

The following audio involves discussions of the problem of evil, what makes a person good or evil, and its effect on the world.

The interviews started off with questions about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.  In the following audio clips, you will hear people’s reactions to, reasons for, and responses to the tragedy.

Project Introduction

Our apologetics class (for a definition of “apologetics,” see our first post) was a great experience through which our ability to defend our faith was increased. This blog is a documentation of our end-of-year project which we completed for the class.

Over a period of several weeks, we interviewed 50 people at the downtown public library in Kokomo, Indiana. We spent hours asking questions, listening to answers, and discussing further those questions and answers.

We started off each conversation by asking a few questions about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut that happened in December 2012. Depending on the answers of the person, we sometimes branched off into discussions of their worldview and beliefs. The second half of the questions involved the terrible reality of abortion, which kills 3,000 babies each day in the United States alone.

Overall, the project was quite profitable for us as we honed our skill in defending our faith in Christ and articulating what we stand for. We hope it was also beneficial for those we interviewed, and we would like to thank the 50 people who took the time to talk with us.

Please check out the posts on this blog to hear some audio clips from the interviews! Also, feel free to share this blog with anyone who might be interested. We welcome any questions, feedback, or constructive criticism you might have. Ask away!

What is apologetics?  According to Merriam-Webster, apologetics is:

1: systematic argumentative tactics or discourse in defense (as of a doctrine, a historical character, or particular actions)
2: that branch of theology devoted to the defense of a religious faith and addressed primarily to criticism originating from outside the religious faith; especially such defense of the Christian faith
